How to book at night
- Settle the bill, check your battery. Under 20%? Ask the bar to charge it.
- Walk to the alley entrance. Cars cannot enter the alley. Stand on the main road, 15B, and book from there.
- Type the hotel address, not the name. Several hotels share the same name.
- Plate = plate in the app. One character off, do not get in. A GrabBike that hands you no helmet gets sent away.
- A card saved in the app is the cleanest way to pay. If paying cash, keep a 50k note ready for "no change".
When no Grab comes
- Wait five minutes and try again. Demand peaks at 1–2am on Friday and Saturday. If the app offers a small fare bump, that is cheaper than haggling on the street.
- Metered taxis: company cabs only. Roof light and door logo of a taxi company, and the meter must be running. If a driver quotes "50k" without a meter, do not get in.
- Refuse cars and bikes that approach you. "Không, cảm ơn" (khong, kam uhn) is enough. → 10 phrases to say no
- Rain adds more surcharge. In a downpour, waiting 10–20 minutes indoors before booking is cheaper.

- Walk back to the hotel alone after drinking — even inside District 1, after 2am go by car.
