Ho Chi Minh City Nightlife — Areas, Hours & Price Ranges

What to do after dinner: choose the kind of evening you want

Match the next stop to your remaining time and whether your group wants conversation, music or a walk. These are decision criteria, not a promise of a particular venue's hours or a scheduled performance.

A walk
For flexible sightseeing when conditions allow. Check the route back and transport home before setting out.
A café
For a seated conversation or a break. Nearby indoor seating and confirmed last orders can keep the next stop simple.
A performance
If the show is the main reason to go, check the organizer's date, start and end times, venue and tickets first. This does not describe entertainment offered by Rabbit Bar.
A bar or KTV
For drinks and conversation, or singing. Compare hall and room billing first. Rabbit Bar at 15B/32 is one option, open 20:00–04:00. For a late arrival, ask how much usable time remains.

Saigon Centre at 65 Lê Lợi is another indoor option for the evening. Its official guide lists food and beverage outlets at 10:00–22:00; other shops close at 21:30 Monday–Thursday and 22:00 Friday–Sunday. Check individual outlets and last orders before visiting. Saigon Centre · 2026-10-28

Where do you go for nightlife in Ho Chi Minh City? — Overview

District 1 nightlife splits into four areas. All are inside District 1, about 10 minutes apart by Grab, so two areas in one night is about right.

Le Thanh Ton runs through the middle of District 1. Japanese restaurants, izakayas and bars cluster in the 15B alley off Le Thanh Ton and the alleys on the Thái Văn Lung side, which is why people call it Japan Town. The busiest stretch is about 300 m long. Most customers are expats and travellers, so it is quieter than Bui Vien. Restaurants usually close around 22:00; bar closing times vary by venue.

Bui Vien

Bui Vien is the backpacker street on the west side of District 1. Beer bars and clubs line both sides and the music is loud. Most sources say it is closed to traffic on weekends (Sat–Sun) from 19:00 to 02:00; some include Friday, so check on the day. It is busiest after 21:00. Do not buy the balloons sold on the street (laughing gas, nitrous oxide); the UK government warns about them specifically.

The central plaza is open to pedestrians at all times, and on weekends (Sat–Sun) 18:00–22:00 the side roads close to traffic too (VnExpress, 2023). It costs nothing, makes a good first-night walk, and the Le Thanh Ton 15B alley is about 10 minutes away on foot. Holidays and events have their own closures.

5 rules for the night

  1. Phone in the hand away from the road. Motorbike snatch theft is common. If it happens, let go. It is better than getting hurt.
  2. Take drinks directly and keep them in sight. Do not drink alcohol of unknown origin; the UK government warns of methanol poisoning cases.
  3. Do not buy laughing-gas balloons.
  4. If you have been drinking, do not ride or drive. Vietnam allows zero alcohol for drivers, and motorbike fines run from 2,000,000 to 10,000,000 VND (Law 44/2019, Decree 168/2024). Get home with Grab or Xanh SM.
  5. Emergency numbers. Police 113, ambulance 115 (Vietnamese-speaking operators). For a lost passport or serious trouble, contact your embassy or consulate. More in Emergency & tools.

A sample night

  1. 17:00–18:30 Rooftop. Check the sunset table and arrive 30 minutes early.
  2. 18:30 Dinner. An izakaya on Le Thanh Ton or a place near Ben Thanh Market.
  3. 20:00 Walk Nguyen Hue. On weekends the side roads are pedestrian too.
  4. 21:00 One bar on Le Thanh Ton. Look at the price list first.
  5. 22:30 Bui Vien only if you want it, for 60 minutes.
  6. Home by Grab. Copy your hotel address in advance. Fares are in the Grab guide.
