Vietnam Flight Power Banks 2026: Two-Unit Limit & China Domestic 3C

Vietnam CAAV guidance effective 1 July 2026 limits power banks to two per passenger, in cabin baggage. Singapore Airlines flights and itineraries with a domestic flight in mainland China have additional conditions below.

Official sources checked 28 October 2026. Rules can change; reconfirm with the operating airline before departure.

Vietnam CAAV: two power banks; no onboard use or charging

  • From 1 July 2026, CAAV guidance allows at most two power banks per passenger in cabin baggage. Above 100Wh and up to 160Wh requires advance approval from the operator.
  • Do not recharge a power bank or use it to charge another device onboard. Keep it out of your bag, in view, and individually protected against short circuits.

Additional conditions for your operating flight or connection

Singapore Airlines (SIA) operated flights

From 15 April 2026: at most two. Keep them accessible in a seat pocket or under the seat in front, rather than in an overhead compartment. Onboard use and charging are prohibited.

An itinerary including a mainland China domestic flight

From 28 June 2025, CAAC prohibits power banks without a clear 3C mark, or from recalled models or batches, on domestic flights. Do not automatically extend this notice to all international flights or direct Hong Kong/Taiwan services.

Before checking a bag

Vietnam Airlines says power banks and removable spare batteries must be carried in hand baggage. Do not put a power bank in checked luggage. If cabin baggage is taken for checking at security or the gate, remove the battery and follow staff instructions.

Check capacity and quantity

Find the Wh rating on the power bank. Vietnam Airlines lists a maximum of two power banks per passenger at 100Wh or less. For a larger capacity or unclear marking, do not guess: ask the operating airline. Vietnam Airlines prohibits power banks recalled for fire risk in both cabin and checked baggage.

Onboard use depends on the carrier

Japan Airlines says that from 24 April 2026 passengers must not use a power bank to charge another device onboard or charge the power bank from the aircraft’s power supply. Do not assume every airline has the same rule; check the current carrier policy and follow crew instructions.

Connecting in Vietnam

When your international and domestic sectors have different operating airlines, both sets of rules matter. Keep the power bank accessible in cabin baggage, check its capacity and condition, and be ready to remove it before a bag is checked. Confirm connecting baggage procedures with your airline.

May a power bank go in checked baggage?

Vietnam Airlines and Japan Airlines prohibit it in checked baggage and require cabin carriage. Check the latest policy for each operating airline.

Which rule applies if I use two airlines?

Check both operating airlines’ current rules for their respective flights and follow their instructions.

How many power banks can I take on a Vietnam flight?

CAAV guidance effective 1 July 2026 sets a maximum of two per passenger, in cabin baggage only. Capacity limits and any additional operating-airline conditions still apply.

Do I need a 3C-marked power bank for Ho Chi Minh City?

The cited CAAC notice concerns domestic flights in mainland China. Check the 3C mark and recall status if your itinerary includes such a flight; do not treat this notice as a universal condition for international flights to Ho Chi Minh City.
